Peach Kuchen
I love to devour peach desserts. Well truth be told I love to devour desserts period. I was first introduced to peach kuchen by my mother-in-law. Kuchen is the German word for cake and the dessert is like an open faced pie. I found a yummy recipe a while ago in Midwest Living magazine, that I would love to share with you. When I am entertaining during the summer, this is one of my go to recipes. It's so simple, yet so scrumptious.
Ingredients
1 1/2cups all-purpose flour
3/4cup granulated sugar
1 1/2teaspoons baking powder
1/4teaspoon salt
1/4teaspoon ground nutmeg or cinnamon
1/4cup butter
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2cup milk
2 cups sliced fresh peaches or frozen unsweetened peach slices, thawed and well drained on paper towels
1/3cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon light-color corn syrup
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Vanilla or peach ice cream
Directions
- Grease and flour a 9x9x2-inch baking pan. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Using a pastry blender, cut in the 1/4 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center of flour mixture. In a small bowl, combine egg and milk. Add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened (batter should be lumpy).
- Spread batter into prepared pan. Halve any large peach slices. Arrange peach slices in a single layer on top of batter.
- For topping, in a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, the 1 tablespoon butter and the lemon juice. Bring to boiling. Quickly drizzle over peach slices.
- Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of cake comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack 20 minutes. serve warm with ice cream. Makes 9 servings.

Peach Interiors
We are declaring this week peach week here at Cupcakes & Confetti! August is national peach month, and we celebrate peaches in our neck of the woods during Labor Day weekend. The reason being is that our hometown has a peach festival at this time. We spend most of the time at my parents house and go back and forth to all the peach festivities and enjoy all the peach goodness. So how about a little touch of peach for your home?

Summer Slumber
As I mentioned in a previous post, my family went away for a few days last week to the west side of the state. The days were filled with making sandcastles, splashing in the lake and just making wonderful memories. School will be starting up again soon and my husband will go back to teaching, my oldest daughter will be starting second grade and now summer is slowly reaching its' slumber. I had such an amazing and fast summer that included many lunches and dinners outside and my days ended with wiping away melting ice cream from sticky fingers and faces. My girls are growing as quickly as the summer passes, and I am trying to embrace and breathe in every moment. I hope you had a brilliant summer too, whether enjoying chats with friends or creating memories with family. Share some of your favorite summer memories with us. We love comments.
Sister Love
Today is Dara's birthday! I wanted to share a few thoughts about my amazing sister on this special day that belongs to her. There are several years in between us and we didn't become friends until adulthood. Because of our age gap, we didn't interact very much together as children. We are always experiencing different parts of our lives at different times. While she was in elementary school, I was dating my now husband. And right now Dara is living the single life and I am raising my family. As adults I appreciate this more because I can go to her to get a different perspective on all matters.
Dara is serene, soft spoken, kind hearted, hard working and is just an all around good egg. There is really no reason not to like her. She is a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt and friend. I am proud to call her my sister, my best friend and my partner in good (not evil). Dara is the person I call, text and email whether to share a laugh or to vent to. I hope and pray that my daughters grow some day to have a relationship with each other like what Dara and I have together today. Happy birthday Dara! I hope your day is as fabulous as you are and that all of your birthday wishes come true.
Summer Party Ideas
During the summer months many people seem to have a luau themed party, but we would love to see one inspired by post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. He went to Tahiti to revive himself both spiritually and artistically, as many of us go to a tropical destinations to revive ourselves today. Going to the French Polynesian island brought him back to a place of simplicity and away from the stresses of the civilized world. Gauguin was inspired by all that surrounded him and painted several works in oil depicting Tahitian life.
We would love to see a outdoor party that is simple, casual and dare we say a bit primitive. Put together some rustic finger foods and of course some deliciously sweet tropical cocktails. Find a table that is low to the ground and sit in the grass or sand, put out some cushions for more comfort and layer some sarongs to use as tablecloths.

Wedding Getaway Cars
We live in Metro Detroit, land of the automotive industry. Growing up and living in this area means that several people you know work for, or are connected to the car industry. There is an arts college in downtown Detroit that has a department in transportation design. We not only think about the engineering that takes place to create a car, but also the external design of cars. People around here see the beauty in cars.
Last weekend was the Dream Cruise, which is a celebration of cars. All types of car owners parade their cars on Woodward Avenue, while crowds line along side the road and reminisce about their first car or fantasize about their dream car. It was first meant for those who have classic cars, but now it has grown to anyone who has a car that wants to show it off. In honor of the Dream Cruise, we have put together a collection of wedding getaway cars. Happy cruising to all those who love cars and their design.

Family Time
As summer winds down, I'm going to take some time with my husband and daughters before school starts up again. We will be taking somewhat of a staycation and stay in Michigan. We will be heading to the west side of the state and dip our toes in Lake Michigan and walk along the sandy beaches. So until I see you again in a few days, I wanted to leave you with this lovely cover on the summer issue of Michigan BLUE Magazine. The issue has an amazing story in it about cruising the Great Lakes during days gone by. It's filled with fabulous vintage ads that are absolutely delightful.
