This weekend is Labor Day weekend here in the states. It's summer's last hooray for many of us. It's one last camping trip or barbecue before the crisp cool air of autumn touches us and the school year begins. For me, I'll be celebrating my weekend at the Peach Festival. I grew up in a little town, where my parents still live and like many small American towns, there's an annual festival filled with carnival rides and parades. My family spends the weekend at my parents' house and we take my daughters to the daily activities in town and we all have our fill of peach everything. I'm planning on buying some fresh peaches from one of the many local orchards to make a peach blueberry cobbler for dessert. So, that's how I'll be spending my weekend. How will you be spending yours?

Dream Cruise Weekend
I live in Metro Detroit and if you haven't heard, cars are kind of a big deal around these parts. This weekend is the Woodward Dream Cruise. It's an event where owners of classic cars drive down a popular stretch of road while car enthusiasts sit and watch the cars go by. Over the years the event has morphed into a week long celebration that includes all types of cars, classic and new. This is my ode to the almighty automobile that moves this region.

Celebrating Date Night This Weekend
I'm sooo looking forward to this weekend. My husband and I are finally getting a long overdue date night. We are treating this date night as our Valentine's Day celebration. We usually don't exchange gifts, but we do exchange time. With two small children, we rarely get a dinner alone where we don't need to cut someone else's food or that we actually get a chance to sit down through an entire meal. Parents, you know what I'm talking about. I can't wait to slowly eat my food, perhaps have a cocktail and enjoy an uninterupted conversation with my beloved. I love spending time with my husband and way too often we take on the roles of "Mom" and "Dad", but forget to focus on the roles of "husband" and "wife". Cheers to date night! Have a beautiful weekend friends! xx
Celebrating Snow This Weekend
It's Thursday and as I sit here writing this post, there is a major snow storm headed my way and to the east coast of the U.S. I'm making sure we have everything we need in the house so that I don't have to run out tomorrow on the slippery roads. My husband, my daughter and many other students are praying for a snow day so that they can have an extra long weekend. One thing that I enjoy about snow is shoveling. I know a little weird, but hear me out. I like breathing in the cold air and standing in the silence of the neighborhood and simply hearing the scrape of the shovel against the pavement. To me this is therapeutic, although I wouldn't be saying this after a week long snow fall. Stay warm friends! See you next week! xx
P.S. We got our snow day.

Celebrating This Weekend - Love + Friendship
My family is soooo excited for this weekend. We're celebrating a very good friend's wedding. My daughters are the flower girls and my husband is doing a reading and we're thrilled for the festivities to begin. So this weekend I will have a white wedding to help me break through the mid winter blues. I'll get to dress up, dance the night away and enjoy the company of great friends. What are you up to this weekend?
Celebrating This Weekend: Warmth + Comfort
One of my favorite things about winter is that I have a night time ritual with my husband. After we tuck the kids into bed I always ask my husband if he wants a cup of tea. I always know that he will say "yes", but for some reason I still ask him this question every winter night. I put on a pot of tea, I grab my favorite fluffy warm blanket that my sister bought for me a few Christmases ago and I sit with husband on our couch and watch television and hold onto a warm cup of tea in my perpetually cold hands. This little winter ritual is something I look forward to when the day winds down. Have a beautiful weekend friends. Stay warm and comfy.
Celebrating This Weekend - Holiday Break
My husband and daughter have had a nice long holiday break and we have enjoyed every minute of staying up late, sleeping in and slow mornings for almost a good two weeks, but on Monday its' back to the regular old routine. Remember this post where I missed snow? Well, over the break we received plenty of it and not much has melted away. On Christmas Eve, when we walked out of church you could see through the glow of the parking lot lights the snow gently floating to the ground. It was magical. I haven't seen a white Christmas in years. It was perfect.
We will savor these last few days together, but in between that, I need to put away the holiday decor around my house. It's such a chore, isn't it? It's never as fun to put away as it is to put up and the house seems so empty afterwards. So being with my family is really the celebration part of the weekend, the cleaning up part, eh, not so much.

Celebrating This Weekend - My Husband
I'm starting a sort of new series here on Cupcakes & Confetti titled "Celebrating This Weekend". I've written weekend posts in the past, but now I'm giving it a little bit of a party twist. My husband's birthday was yesterday and we really end up celebrating it the entire weekend. This week I've made Star Wars cookies and cupcakes for him and my Mother-in-law will be making him a long time family recipe of angel food cake with pink frosting. It has to have pink frosting or it just doesn't taste the same. His birthday isn't complete without this particular cake. Do you have to have a dessert or food or a tradition that you must have for your birthday every year? Have a lovely weekend friends! xx
{This Weekend} Sip Coffee
This weekend my in-laws are taking both of my girls for an overnight! What does that mean? That means sleeping in, being able to slowly sip my coffee and reading the paper at my leisure. Ahh...I can't wait. Of course while the girls are gone, I will miss them terribly and give them big bear hugs when they walk through the door. How is your weekend shaping up?
Bridal Shower Gift Wrapping Idea
This weekend my girls and I are having a girls' day. All three of us are going to a bridal shower of a dear friend and it just so happens that my daughters are going to be flower girls on the wedding day. We're all super excited because it's so wonderful to share these amazing occasions with friends. I wanted to share with you the special way I wrapped the gift. I can't take credit for this idea that I got from my sister-in-law. Since the tradition for a bridal shower is to collect bows from the party and create a bouquet that the bride uses during the rehearsal, my sister-in-law started to put some artificial flowers atop bridal shower gifts so that the bride would have more than just bows in her practice bouquet. So, taking off with her idea, I wrapped this gift with some special embellishments for my dear friend.

Weekend Notes - Family Time
Is it Friday already?! Halloween really made the week fly by. I was busy all week doing last minute Halloween prep and in the middle of it all, I nearly forgot to carve the pumpkins. And suddenly I find myself in November and still on a sugar rush from October.
With November we celebrate Thanksgiving. We stop to give thanks, well all this week I have been thankful. I am thankful to have power and an undamaged home and that my family is safe and sound. My heart breaks for everyone who is affected by super storm Sandy. She left much devastation in her wake and I pray that the lives of everyone who was affected by her wrath will quickly get back to normal.
This weekend will be a time for family. My oldest daughter has a big social studies project that needs some attention, which really means homework for Mom and Dad. My nephew will be baptized this weekend and my husband and I have been given the honor of being God parents to this little person. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend and I hope you take some time to be thankful and take some time to hug someone you love. Hugs to all of you!

{Weekend Notes} More Halloween Fun
This weekend we will be enjoying some more Halloween festivities. There is a street in our hometown that is amazingly decorated for Halloween. We along with many many others will gawk at the creations that the proud homeowners have worked so hard on. There will also be a little Halloween parade that we will be attending. Yep, lots and lots more spooky fun to be had. Maybe we'll fit in another doughnut or two. Have a fun filled weekend!
This Weekend - Get in the Halloween Spirit
This weekend we are taking my daughters to the Zoo Boo. Dara started this tradition with my oldest daughter Ellie and we are happy have my youngest daughter Amelia join in. My girls will enjoy plenty or sugary treats and some fun activities while all dressed up in their Halloween costumes. It's so wonderful to get some use out of those costumes other than just on Halloween itself. Have a delightful weekend friends!
{This Weekend} Celebrations
This weekend we will be celebrating Dara's boyfriend, Paul, who now is an official full time officer of the law. We're so happy for him as he has worked hard and has gone through many obstacles to get to this point in his life. Dara and Paul are also going to attend yet another wedding, this time locally. So it is yet another weekend full of celebrations. As always, we hope you have a splendid weekend too.
Wedding Anniversary Weekend
Eleven years ago today I woke up to pouring rain, ate breakfast and anxiously waited to slip into my wedding dress. I chose fall to get married because I dreamed of having outdoor photos with the beautiful backdrop of fall leaves behind me. Sadly that day the rain never stopped, but it didn't ruin the day because no matter what I would marry the love of my life. Pouring rain or not.
After the wedding my husband and I went on our honeymoon, as most newly married couples too. My husband is a teacher and couldn't take that much time off. We made the decision to stay in Michigan and head to one of my most favorite places - Traverse City. One of the things that I love about Michigan is how dramatically beautiful it becomes in the fall. As we made the four hour drive to Traverse City the colors along the road grew bolder and more amazing and as we reached our destination seeing the bay and the lake made it more magical. If you are ever in Michigan, I encourage you to visit Traverse City and the surrounding areas. There are wineries galore and many fabulous restaurants to make any foodie happy. The picture below was taken last year during our 10th wedding anniversary, when we went back to Traverse City. It is of Black Star Farms, a local vineyard and farm. I love how the netting over the vines appears ghostly and of course the autumn foliage in the background.

{This Weekend} Preparing for a Party
This weekend we will be preparing for my oldest daughter's birthday party. We will be cutting, tying, gluing and doing anything else that needs to be done. In between all of that we will try to enjoy the crisp autumn air, since fall has arrived here in Michigan. We hope you have a fabulous weekend doing whatever it is that the pretty little head decides. See you again soon.
Meet Up With Old Friends
I am truly excited for this weekend. I am meeting up with some old friends that I can't wait to catch up with. When I graduated from college I was fortunate enough to get a job at an art center where I was surrounded by what I love, art. There was a constant flow of rotating exhibits that painted the gallery walls with color and life. Artists, instructors and students filled the building with their creativity and their talent. While I was working there, there was a group of young women who were all around my age. We were all in the same stage of life, freshly out of college and single. We had a blast together while we were there, but we eventually moved onto other jobs. We grew together from single women to married wives and have now taken on the rolls mothers. Life gets busy and I haven't been able to keep in touch with them as much as I would like to, in fact it has been years since I have seen them. I am thrilled to set aside some time this weekend to reconnect with these amazing women that hold a special place in my heart.
Wedding Weekend
Dara is headed for her second weekend in a row of weddings. I'm sure she will be dancing the night away with friends. After the wedding, she and her man are headed to his home state of Illinois to see the sights of Chicago. It's such a great city and I know that they will have a fabulous time there.
As for me, I am planning to just head to a local craft show. Hopefully I will find some treasures there to gift or to keep. How is your weekend shaping up?
Weekend Wanderings
This weekend Dara will hop on a ferry for a little getaway with some girlfriends for a bachelorette party on a island in the Great Lakes for a couple days. Dara's days and nights will be filled memories, laughter and a cocktail here and there. This is how Dara's weekend might look. What do you have planned for weekend?
