Hey everyone! So here's the second part of my farm fresh floral arrangement post. As I mentioned earlier, I purchased some celosia along with some other beauties from Reinhardt Blooms at a local farmer's market. Today, I'm showing you what I created with the celosia. This flower is so amazing for fall arrangements. I love it's shape and softness. I also adore the purplish hue of the leaves, so I left the leaves on to allow them to show through. Along with the celosia I added some dahlias from my sister-in-law's garden and some Japanese maple branches and sedum from my own garden.
Hey Friends! Over Labor Day weekend I went to a local farmers' market and picked up some fabulous fresh flowers grown by the amazing Reinhardt Blooms and I also had the pleasure of meeting their floral designer, Katie. Reinhardt Blooms is a 30 plus acre flower farm here in Michigan that has been run by five generations. Pretty amazing, right? They grow and sell flowers and also offer floral design services for weddings and events. You must check out their site and blog to see pics. It's absolutely dreamy. Katie uses ingredients from their farm for her gorgeous and dramatic, garden style designs. It's a style I'm trying to master. I love garden style floral arrangements and the way it allows the natural beauty and shape of blooms to show through the design.
I purchased scabiosa pods, celosia and cosmos to create two different floral arrangements. I'm sharing this one with you today. Stay tuned for the second one next week. It's not as spectacular as Katie's designs, but I hope with some hard work and practice, that I'll get there. I used three ingredients all grown at local farms in this arrangement. The cosmos and scabiosa pods are from Reinhardt Blooms and the beautiful peach colored dahlias are from farm owned by a family friend. I love the sunny, happy feeling of the arrangement and I hope you do too. Have a wonderful week friends!
Happy Monday morning friends! I had some leftover blooms from the shoot I recently styled, so I played around to create this sweet little arrangement. It's comprised of dahlias, queen anne's lace, hydrangea, hosta and morning glory. Can you tell that I'm falling for floral design? Here's to a productive and wonderful week!
It's summer - my husband and daughter are out of school and I'm kind of in school for the summer and that's the reason you've seen less of me here at the blog. I started off at the end of May taking The Style Lab course by the lovely ladies at Confetti Pop and learned a thing or two about photo styling. If you have a blog, business or simply want to know a little more about photo styling, I highly recommend taking the course.
At the moment, I'm taking Floral Arranging 101 with the talented Chelsea from Frolic. I just finished my first week and made a first hand-tied bouquet! That's it up there! It's a start and I can only go up from here. I've been tapping into my creative, girly side all while playing with flowers - I couldn't be happier.
I love that in life you are constantly absorbing new knowledge and skills. You can take control and make the decision to take the time and put in the work to learn something new. Part of learning process is making mistakes, which for me is difficult to accept. I love learning each lesson and attempting to do the homework assignments, but the critique - that's rough. I'm only human, right? I'm taking it much better now though then I did in my younger years.
So that's what I've been up to. I've been jumping into new things, improving myself and embracing change. I'll keep you posted on my progress. How about you? Are any of you taking any classes out there? Are any of you interested in trying something new?
I've been inspired by citrus for some summer projects lately. Orange, lemon and lime are perfect summer colors and flavors if you ask me and I've been noticing it around quite a bit. Here is my idea for an orange infused centerpiece with pops of pink paper flowers on a carpet of moss. I think it's super fun and colorful for a summer party. What do you think?
If you've been following along, I've been posting here and there about my daughter's first communion. If you missed it, you can read about it here and here. The day finally arrived at the end of April and today I'm sharing how the party turned out. I wanted the style to be sweet and feminine, so I decided on a palette of pale pink and gray. When my daughter chose a dress that had some lace in it, I also added some touches of lace to the decor.
The trellis pattern was scattered throughout, starting with the invitations I designed. I also made napkin rings with the same trellis pattern.
This light fixture hangs above my kitchen table. I like to add special touches to unexpected places. I also like placing decor up high so that your eye moves up, like the greens I added above the dessert table or the flowering branches I hung on some pendant lights.
The cake and macarons were made by the wonderful Heather of Gracie Moonpie & Co. I really admire Heather's attention to detail. She didn't just make the cake, she asked me the right questions to ensure that the cake fit well with the overall style of the party. As you can see, the gray cross and trellis pattern also found its' way onto the design of the cake. If you live in Southeast Michigan and need something sweet made check out Gracie Moonpie & Co. Their cakes taste as good as they look and Heather is an absolute joy to work with.
My mother-in-law made cross shapped cookies and my mother made various mini desserts including coconut cheesecakes topped with mango. It's so nice to have family who are willing to lend a hand.

wanted to share with you today a picture of my mantel. Last weekend my family
celebrated my daughter's first communion and I had a bunch of left over flowers
from her party, so I dressed my mantel with them. I should have changed the water in the vase with the branches in them before I snapped the photo, otherwise, I think the mantel looked
really pretty and full of life with the fresh blooms. I hope to
share with you some pics from the first communion celebration in the near future so, stay tuned. I had tons of fun
planning it and I think it turned out to be just lovely. This weekend I'll be
celebrating my daughter's fourth birthday, so there's no rest for me. What

Jess Jamison, owner of Everly Lane Design creates party wares that will add some sparkle and shine to your next shindig. Check her out! She's pretty darn fabulous.
Spring is coming and going here in Michigan. One moment I go can out with a light spring coat and the next minute I have to haul out my winter jacket again. I'm dreaming of spring with days full of sunshine, bike rides, and flowers. To fulfill my need for flowers I'm starting a series called In Bloom. We all know how flowers can add life to a party and everyday, so as I come across pretty little blooms from across the web I'll share them with you. I'm trying to be a little adventurous and put together some of my own floral arrangements. If they're not too embarrassing, I might share them here on the blog too.
Here's an adorable idea from Midwest Living. Chalk board paint on some white ceramic vessels were used to spell out "spring" and a variety of different flowers are placed in each vessel like tulips and forsythia. Tulips are among my favorite flowers and I have some orange tulips sitting on my kitchen table right now. Bright yellow forsythia bushes remind me of my childhood and my parents' house. My parents had the bold buds growing both in their front and backyards as I was growing up. Do you have a favorite spring time flower? Which type and why?
How are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day? I'll be honest, I normally just celebrate by eating a little corned beef and cabbage and by wearing a hint of green. I know, not very exciting at all. Last week I posted part 1 of this winter tabletop post. Today I'm including a dessert you could serve if you were to use this tabletop idea for a little winter dinner party. Sticking with the theme, I'm serving up a scoop of classic vanilla ice cream and I placed a triangle shaped sugar cookie that I frosted with royal icing to make it look like a snow covered mountain.
I was flipping through an issue of Midwest Living and stumbled across an idea for a tabletop inspired by the tundra. The centerpiece included a bowl of rocks and artifical snow and I wanted to try it out. I would describe midwest style as traditional and approachable, which the idea is.
Well, I'm obessed with all things French and lately I've been drawn to some designs where the outline of natural elements or everyday objects are modernized and simplified and then presented in a playful manner. So, I married these two concepts from Midwest Living and French design and this is how it turned out. I placed light colored rocks on a flat glass plate and sprinkled on some artifical snow and placed some cold climate creatures around the plate. Going with a palette of white and gray, I made the mountains in simple triangle shapes for both the centerpiece and napkin rings out of scrapbook paper and card stock. I finished the napkin rings off with natural looking twine. What do you think? Come back later to check out part 2 of this post.
As I search the web for items to include in some of my posts like Party Palette and other mood boards, I stumble upon some super cool items that may not necessarily fit with what I'm working on at the moment, but I file it away to save for next time. As I was going through some of these items, the thought of creating a series of posts with these finds popped into my head. There are so many talented people out there creating amazing items for parties and events that are so much more than what you can find in any box store. I want to highlight these people and share them with you.
So, I begin my Spotted series with The Shoppe by Madeline Trait. Madeline describes her shop as "a unique place to find modern and unique items for celebrations and weddings." Like many of us, I have been busy trying to get all of the details for the holidays taken care of, which has left me little time to blog. I just wanted to write this post to share with you this gold and copper holiday table I'm planning for a Christmas day brunch I'm hosting. I'm in love with metallic colors right now, which is perfect for holidays. I filled cylinders with faux snow and put some fresh greenery inside them for centerpieces along with some gold and copper colored votive candle holders. The gilded burlap runner and ornaments are from Target. You got to love Target. The ornaments also act as place cards for everyone. I wrapped each place setting in gold glittery ribbon so that each one is like an individual present. Simple, but it's always the little touches that make a difference.
My taste is all over the map. I would describe it as traditional, modern, vintage. The items below reflect my love of modern design. Clean, simple and fresh. The collection of modern shaped Christmas trees in the classic cloche from Dwell Studios reflects two mixes of styles that I like. I was drawn to the simplicity of the shadow figures painted on the white background by Modern Inspired Design. I love these metallic colors on these ornaments from Totem Color Blocks. Aren't these nesting dolls from Mokkasin just the cutest? One of these little fellas reminds me of my husband. Where ever your taste lies, I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Here are some ideas to style religious celebrations and to make the occasion even more special than it already is. Isn't the little saying with the date and the name of the child a nice personal touch to the day. Don't forget to add a beautiful cake like this one. We are loving the dove garland. A great way to commemorate the day and to get guests involved is to have guests write down a prayer for the guest of honor. Whatever way you decide to celebrate, we are sure the day will be well remembered by all who attend.
