Throughout my life I've been asked the question, "Where are you from?", and usually I say, "I'm from x, a suburb north of Detroit."  Sometimes when I give that answer I get a weird look and then I see that that person meant, "Where are you from?"  Like, "What's your background?"  I'm Cambodian, I was born in Thailand and my parents and I were fortunate enough to come here to the United States when I was a toddler. 

That's my story and now you'll understand why I chose to feature basik 855 today.  The company offers fashion and home products in bold, modern patterns that are handwoven by artisians in Cambodia.  Daniel Flickinger started the Push Pull Cambodia Weaving Center in Takeo Province, Cambodia in 2009 which creates the designs and products for basik 855.  The goal of the Push Pull Cambodia Weaving Center and basik 855 is to stimulate a renaissance of Cambodian ikat so that the people of Takeo can make a better living—one rooted in their own customs.  Read more about the company and their story here.  Pretty fabulous, right?  Check out their site, buy and support.

Modern Christmas

My taste is all over the map.  I would describe it as traditional, modern, vintage.  The items below reflect my love of modern design.  Clean, simple and fresh.  The collection of modern shaped Christmas trees in the classic cloche from Dwell Studios reflects two mixes of styles that I like.  I was drawn to the simplicity of the shadow figures painted on the white background by Modern Inspired Design.  I love these metallic colors on these ornaments from Totem Color Blocks.  Aren't these nesting dolls  from Mokkasin just the cutest?  One of these little fellas reminds me of my husband.  Where ever your taste lies, I hope you have a wonderful holiday.  

Emerald

I'm sure you've heard by now that emerald is the Pantone color of the year.  I have to say I absolutely adore shades of green.  It's a color that's both familiar and full of life.  It can remind you of Christmas or of spring. There is green sprinkled through my house and I used the color in my wedding many years ago.  So, you know what I think of the color green.  What do you think?

Bar Carts

Since we love to entertain, we are obsessed with bar carts right now.  It's the perfect movable space to mix and store all your favorite drinks, glasses and mixing tools.  If my dining room wasn't currently being used as a play room, I would put a chic bar cart in that room.  These stylish and fun bar carts from Society Social caught our eyes.  Aren't the illustrations and the product names just fabulous?  The Hostess drink cart comes in a variety of vibrant colors including purple, indigo and yellow.  Which bar cart is your fave?

Peach Interiors

We are declaring this week peach week here at Cupcakes & Confetti!  August is national peach month, and we celebrate peaches in our neck of the woods during Labor Day weekend.  The reason being is that our hometown has a peach festival at this time.  We spend most of the time at my parents house and go back and forth to all the peach festivities and enjoy all the peach goodness.  So how about a little touch of peach for your home?
