Balloon Party Decor

When I think of balloons, I think of a child's party with cartoon character shaped balloons from the big box party supply store - cheesy, but the kids love it.  I also know that the ordinary balloon can transform the atmoshpere of an event too.  Balloons always seem to say, "Hey, look up here!", which is a good thing because sometimes we forget to take notice of the sky and what's above us.  Check out these not so ordinary ideas to decorate your next party with the classic and affordable balloon.

Holiday Gifting: Something to Wear

Kids are constantly growing, so when it comes to gift giving, clothes are always a go to idea for us.  We are especially in love with the dapper little man look below.  The pattern on the bow tie from Simple Hands gives the look a modern feel with a pop of color.  We couldn't resist including the "mini professor jacket", yep that's what it's called.  How stinking cute is that?  Be sure to top off your dapper little guy with a driver cap.  The look will be sure to melt any grandmother's hearts.

Toys for Kids

Going off the "four gift rule", today we're covering what kids want for the holidays.  This wooden and magnetic car by Tegu allows for boys to race a car and build it too.  Miss Kittie and her little kitten reminds us of own childhood.  We're kind of thinking about buying these two cuties for ourselves.  The felt mosaic game will get kids playing and thinking at same time.  These squirrels may simply be the sweetest finger puppets ever.  Pair these mother goose spectacles with a mother goose bookPerfect. Right?  Get a wood rocket ship baby rattle for the new baby boy in your life.

Baptism + First Communion Party Decor Ideas

Here are some ideas to style religious celebrations and to make the occasion even more special than it already is.  Isn't the little saying with the date and the name of the child a nice personal touch to the day.  Don't forget to add a beautiful cake like this one.  We are loving the dove garland.  A great way to commemorate the day and to get guests involved is to have guests write down a prayer for the guest of honor.  Whatever way you decide to celebrate, we are sure the day will be well remembered by all who attend.

ModHMary

Say "hello" to my friend Elise.  Say "hello" to her shop ModHMary, Modern Holy Mary that is.  As I was brainstorming ideas for this weeks' posts filled with ways to celebrate baptisms and first communions in style, I knew right away that I wanted to feature her shop.  I met Elise several years ago when we worked together at a local art center.  She's a super fun person, who also happens to also be a talented artist.  Elise creates one of a kind handmade jewelry, rosaries, chaplets, prayer cards, and religious art, which are perfect gifts for baptisms or first communions.  Do you like what you see?  Well then, hop over to ModHMary to see all that Elise has to offer.

Baptism Announcements and First Communion Invitations

This week here at Cupcakes & Confetti we are focusing on some religious celebrations.  Why you ask?  As I mentioned here, my nephew was recently baptised and also this coming spring, my daughter Ellie will be having her first communion.  Today, we are going to cover stationery that can be used for either baptism announcements or as first communion invitations.

Little Golden Books Baby Shower

I recently helped coordinate my sister-in-law's baby shower.  I was thrilled that she fell in love with a Little Golden Books, nursery rhyme inspired invitation I had found from Nickle Design.  Little Golden Books were first published in 1942 and I instantly thought of tying in a vintage theme with her baby shower.  I contacted the lovely Kelly at Serradella Vintage Rentals who had some wonderful items to make the shower extra special.  Here is how it turned out.
Mother Goose Invitation, Nursery Rhyme Invitation for Baby Showers or Birthdays

I created escort cards by using printables from Aesthetic Nest that the Mother-to-be found.   Each of the cards had a mixture of different covers from a Little Golden Book including the "Saggy Baggy Elephant", "The Pokey Little Puppy" and "The Fuzzy Little Duckling".  The escort card table was decorated with blocks made by the Grandfather-to-be and vintage baby bottles, vintage baby shoes and silver a rattle.  There was also a mini clothes line made from copies of paper doll clothes from the 1950's.  All the items except for the blocks were from Serredella Vintage Rental.  A mini clothes line also adorned the cake table.

The centerpieces of gerbera daisies also had little paper cutouts of some favorite characters from the Little Golden Books that poked through the flowers.

Some of the tables also had some replicas of vintage toy cars from the Grandfather-to-be's own collection.  We also stacked toy blocks on the tables.

The cake table included a lovely bouquet of hydrangeas in a white pitcher, some vintage milk bottles, a child's set of "Beatrix Potter" china and a child's set of silverware.

Mommy and Daddy had their table marked by specials blocks and baby shoes.

Gift Ideas for New Parents

When a baby is born, usually the first thought is to get a gift for the baby.  The gift is usually an adorable outfit or a hat and booties,  but don't forget about celebrating the new parents too.  Shouldn't they receive a gift for what they have accomplished and for what they are about to embark on?  It's unexpected and we're sure the parents will appreciate it.  Here are some gift ideas for new parents that we came up with.

1. Meals
When you are a new parent, you barely can find the time to grab a snack, let
alone prepare a nice meal.  Whether you make a meal for the new parents or
buy one for them.  We know that filling their tummies will fill their hearts
    too.
2. Parenting Books + Journals
We think books are great gifts for any occasion.  A book on children's health
is a great option, because parents always have questions about that.  We
also love this modern trio of baby journals (pictured below) from Big &
Mighty.  There is so much to keep track of when having a baby including
feeding schedules and well visits to the pediatrician.  You also want to
document those precious moments of the first smile and steps too and that's
why journals make a wonderful gift.
3. Photo Session
Find an amazing local photographer and purchase a gift certificate for a
photo session.  The photo session could be used for a family photo shoot or
just for the new baby. Whatever they choose, we are sure this gift will be
something that is treasured for years to come.
4. Sleep
Every new parent will tell you that sleep is a much valued commodity.  Offer
to come over for an hour or two to watch the new baby so that the new Mom
and Dad can simply take a nap. Trust me as a Mom of two this is a much
    needed and desired gift.
5. Spa Day
Many Moms find it difficult to carve out a little time to focus on themselves.
Giving a gift certificate to a local spa will allow Mommy to take a some time
to pamper herself with a massage, mani, pedi or whatever she chooses.

Birth Announcement Ideas

We're not sure if you've noticed that we are little paper obsessed.  We love announcements, save the dates, invites and overall really just pretty, pretty paper.  So, while we are on the baby theme, here are some lovely birth announcements we found.  We love the on trend painterly looking announcement from Tiny Prints.  It's a perfect way for a modern couple to welcome their baby girl.  The round, clean announcement from Pear Tree is simply sweet.  The "elation notification" is quirky and fun. How elegant is the calligraphy on the announcement from Callie Spondence? And for those who are adopting from across the globe a little something from Minted.  Aren't these announcements just too darn cute?!  Enjoy selecting your own way to introduce your little one to the world.

We found this fun, modern orange and lime invitation from Minted that inspired this inspiration board.  We love the unexpected color combination for a baby shower.  It's bright and cheerful with a modern twist.
